BRC (BRCGS) and IFS Food are two food safety standards recognised by the GFSI, required by international retail to list a supplier, particularly for private label products. In light of the tightening specifications from European brands and the traceability requirements for exports, this certification is now the gateway to the shelves. The FSC/PEFC Chain of Custody certifies that the wood, paper, or packaging is traceable from a sustainably managed forest to your finished product. Any company that processes, prints, or markets these materials and wishes to apply the label must certify this link. This is increasingly a direct requirement from European clients and export markets.

No, ISO 22000 is not a prerequisite. BRC and IFS are more prescriptive standards, recognised by GFSI, whereas ISO 22000 is a management system standard. If you are already certified ISO 22000, a large part of your HACCP and documentation is reusable, which accelerates compliance with BRC/IFS.
