The Black Belt is the expert level of Lean Six Sigma: it certifies the ability to lead complex and cross-functional DMAIC projects using advanced statistical tools. At TargetUp, the programme spans 20 days (140 hours) and prepares for the IASSC certification exam, an internationally recognised standard. It validates both methodological mastery and the actual management of an improvement project.

It targets continuous improvement managers, project leaders, engineers, and quality managers, as well as production managers who are called to lead cross-functional projects with significant stakes. It is particularly suitable for professionals who need to drive critical optimisation projects and oversee Green Belts within their organisation. This is the expected level to become the internal Lean Six Sigma reference for the company.

In the face of margin pressure, customer demands, and quality standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949), organisations need experts capable of sustainably reducing variability and costs of non-quality. Having an internal Black Belt secures strategic improvement projects and spreads a culture of operational excellence. The programme follows the DMAIC logic over four blocks of five days: Advanced Define & Measure (VOC, capability, in-depth MSA), Analyze (hypothesis testing, regression, ANOVA, DOE), Improve (experimental plans, optimisation, piloting), and then Control & Review (SPC, sustainability). Each participant conducts a genuinely supervised complex project, from scoping to securing gains, and takes the IASSC certification exam at the end of the programme.

The Black Belt deepens inferential statistics: capability analysis and MSA, hypothesis testing, regression, ANOVA, experimental plans (DOE), and statistical process control (SPC/MSP). These methods allow for statistically proving the root causes of a problem and objectively validating the gains of a project. This is what distinguishes expert management from a simple intuitive improvement approach.

Experience in improvement projects facilitates assimilation, but the programme is designed to make statistics operational and actionable, not academic. The goal is to know how to make decisions with data, regardless of your original profession.
