ISO 22301 is the international standard for Business Continuity Management Systems (BCMS). It structures an organisation's ability to anticipate a disruptive incident, maintain critical activities during a crisis, and recover quickly. Concretely, it covers Business Impact Analysis (BIA), risk assessment, continuity strategies, continuity and recovery plans (BCP/DRP), crisis management, and test exercises. It is the globally recognised resilience framework.

It targets any organisation where an interruption would have a significant impact: banks, insurance companies, telecoms, data centres, industry, logistics, health, energy, public sector, and IT/BPO providers. It is particularly relevant for organisations responding to tenders or serving clients that require proof of continuity. You will leave with a complete and auditable system: mapping of critical activities, quantified BIA, risk register, continuity strategies, continuity plan (PCA) and recovery plan (PRA), crisis management and communication procedures, exercise plan, and complete documentation of the SMCA. These deliverables remain dynamic: they are designed to be genuinely actionable on the day of an incident and maintained over time.

An IT recovery plan (PRA) only covers one aspect of risk. ISO 22301 addresses the entire organisation: human resources, sites, suppliers, supply chain, communication, and crisis governance, in a structured manner that is enforceable against third parties.
